Day 1: Arrival in Whitehorse and start river tour

Welcome to the capital of the Yukon! We will meet you upon arrival, and drive roughly two hours up north the Klondike Highway towards the small village of Carmacks. Transfer from Whitehorse to Carmacks and start of the river tour. (Overnight accommodation at wilderness campsite)

Day 2-4: Yukon River

Famous Five Finger Rapids are not far from the start of the river tour. These are the only real rapids on the river and easily managed. As we travel on, soaring cutbanks and high bluffs dominate the scenery. Fort Selkirk is a major highlight, a well-preserved former trading post near the mouth of the Pelly River. The site is still actively used by hunters and trappers of the Selkirk First Nation. With its carefully maintained and restored historic buildings the site illustrates the historic trading economy and the transportation development of the Yukon. A great example of former community life in a northern Canadian isolated area. Our camping spots are located on gravel bars or islands with sweeping views of the broad river valley. Bears, moose, and eagles are common. Some areas offer the chance to hike up to viewpoints at the confluences of major creeks. Cabins and mining relics appear more frequently as we descend into gold bearing creeks and tributary rivers, ending ultimately at Dawson City at the confluence of the Klondike River. (Overnight accommodation at wilderness campsites)

Day 5: Dawson City

After four days on the river, we arrive in the colourful boom town of Dawson City around noon. The city grew up almost overnight during the Klondike Gold Rush, becoming the largest city west of Winnipeg and north of Seattle. A National Historic Site, many of the false-fronted buildings and historic homes have been restored, and town holds on to its frontier flavour. During the long days of subarctic summer, Dawson is alive with festivals, live music, and contemporary art. We will spend two nights in a downtown hotel, giving you time to explore the town and surrounding historic sites. Hotel check in and a little walking around Dawson City (Overnight accommodation in Dawson City)

Day 6: Dawson City

We have a full day to experience – Sightseeing Tour in and around Dawson City today. (Overnight accommodation in Dawson City)

Day 7: Dawson City - Whitehorse

We will return to Whitehorse, via the Klondike Highway, stopping to revisit the Five Finger Rapids at the scenic overview, before returning to Whitehorse. (End of program)
